IMMERSION  NATION  RATING

Can you hold a conversation while driving?

The level of thinking necessary for conversation is actually not compatible with driving. Unless you’re in auto pilot. Once a driver gains a ‘muscle memory’ for the task, we begin to check out while driving. A scary thought. When you’re on autopilot, you can reasonably hold a conversation. The second you’re navigating, it’s a different story. We experience a similar issue with our smartphones. Tech doesn’t have to disconnect us however,

Two Bit Circus seeds modern VR and AR into a social experience to remind us it’s a matter of how we use it.

What is Two Bit Circus?

The first of a new breed of Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality arcade. An all-ages evolution of Chuck E Cheese, open only to 21+ weekends after 9pm. The Brain child of engineers Eric Gradman and Brent Bushnell, Two Bit Circus (or 2BC) uses tech to create social experiences, rather than preventing them.

Two bit circus is a big, bright, and bold kind of experience. Less focused a single advanced experience, like The Void, and more so on the game and team play dynamics. Their Story Rooms Are essentially escape rooms, with a less intimidating title.

Many of the carnival games are familiar, with some kind of spin on them. Usually allowing for more (or many more) than 2 players, and almost always played with a clever AR (augmented reality) or VR (virtual reality) component.

Though it is certainly a family friendly spot, it is worth bearing in mind that they do close on weekend evenings for a 21+ crowd. Beyond their quirky main bar, they have a theatrical bartender that goes by the name of Gearmo del Pouro; A robotic bartender that chugs along with Rube Goldbergian flare, in the steampunk styled side bar.

Reports from the front lines of Immersion Nation are saying that 2BC’s playable location is just the tip of the iceberg in many respects; As the mad geniuses behind Two Bit continue to tinker. Currently, they have a project with the Speakeasy Society in the works.

Despite Two Bit Circuses’ technological bent, it seems they have a healthy appreciation for immersive experience over all. In addition to their work with the Speakeasy Society, they play host to Capital W’s ‘Red Flags’ social immersion show. Infact, one of the main points in their manifesto reiterated their appreciation for the non-virtual saying “Reality still has the best resolution”

ImNation Quick Points:

• Actually the false front for a collaboration of mad geniuses

• Refers to their equivalent of escape rooms as ‘Story rooms’

• Has games for 2 players and 100 players

• Collaborates with the broader immersive theater community
