IMMERSION NATION RATING
Why?: Have you ever wanted to be someone else?
Once someone knows you, It’s hard to change the way they see you. For a few hours, you can be- A detective, a suspect, powerful, or ambitious, 6 years old, 25 or 65. The Murder Mystery co creates a space where the people around you will see you as whoever you want to be.
The Subtle Art of Play
People say ‘playing pretend is just for kids’. Playing pretend is for humans. The Murder Mystery Company takes somthing that’s CSI serious, and makes it funny; with larger than life characters, vivid costume bits, and paper money used buy secrets. Professional improv actors create a bubble of alternate reality. If death can be comedic, suddenly everything is possible.
What it’s really like:
Come curious, come hungry.
You have a mission. There is a murderer hiding in your midst. People are dropping dead. Clues are everywhere but you have just a few hours. Figure out who has both motive and means to serve up a hot platter of justice.
When you arrive, your tickets are taken by an actor, already in character. Try to listen closely to everything they say because anything could be a clue…
…Think escape room but the world is created by the people around you and the puzzles are woven of social intrigue.
Pick from a range of props and a professional photographer snaps a picture of you before you’re escorted to your table.
You make the story. With the team at your table, you strategize, theorize, and interrogate the suspects that are picked from the audience.
Reports from the front lines of Immersion Nation are saying that the public shows are awesome, but if you can find a seat at a private event, do it. It’s a whole different show when everyone in the room comes ready to play. If you’re new to this kind of immersion, public shows are a great way to test the waters.
Shows are all over the country. The Murder Mystery Co. has troups of highly trained improv actors all over the country. Public shows happen in set spots but they’ll come literally anywhere for a private show. Word is they’ve performed in guantanamo bay twice.
You can’t call The Murder Mystery Co’s events dinner thearter. It implies a different kind of evening. It is theatre and you do indeed get dinner, but you’re not a passive audience member. The story doesn’t move without you. You are the story.
